Celebrating Romance Event : Author Interview with Allison Temple

Celebrating Romance Event : Author Interview with Allison Temple

Why do you read Romance? Because it’s awesome? Because I love stories of people struggling to find their own peace and building a love that helps them find it. What was the first romance book you read? This is embarrassing. I came to romance soooo late. Like I was 27 or 28 late. I didn’t have a sister or a mom or an aunt with old Harlequins I could steal as a teenager. My first romance was Dream Warrior by Sherrilyn Kenyon and…I didn’t even know it was a romance. It was the height of the Twilight craze. I bought it in a drug store right because I needed something to read on a train ride. The blurb promised me vampires and that’s all I saw. It never occurred to me that it was a romance, but suddenly there were blow jobs on page 60 and I was blushing furiously because obviously everyone else on the train had psychic powers and could tell what I was reading. It’s been… Keep Reading »

#RombkLove Day 7 : Cowboy Romance (and why I love it)

#RombkLove Day 7 : Cowboy Romance (and why I love it)

Hello and welcome to Scorching Book Reviews. My name is Nix and I have a Cowboy Romance addiction. This post is a bit of a cross-post with my Celebrating Romance Event (see past posts) as I chose to celebrate Cowboy Romance! This is a laughable addiction to all who know me as, as I live in the UK, the likelihood of me meeting an actual Cowboy is probably less than me being struck by lightning. So, why do I like them so much I hear you ask? Well, sit down, this may take a while. While I have your attention, I’m Just going to break away from the direction of the post for a second, I just want to state that this post also features Cowgirls, not just cowboys. I’ve also taken a long hard look at the diversity of my reading habits recently and, I have to say, this is not as diverse a list as I would have liked. I am working to change that and any… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance : What is Love by KT Grant (With eBook giveaway)

Celebrating Romance : What is Love by KT Grant (With eBook giveaway)

What is love? I don’t mean the 1993 earworm dance hit by Haddaway, but the actual question. This is a three worded question that has stuck with me since I start publishing in 2010 (my 8th year this month). You may wonder why this question is so important to me. Back when I decided to write romance for the purpose of getting published, I had a decision to make. What type of romance should I write? I had asked some friends and acquaintances what romance novels they liked to read. Many genres were mentioned, such as contemporary, historical or sci-fi. They assumed I would write straight romance. But when I came up with the idea for what would be my first published title, I didn’t want to write a “traditional” type of romance, which for some means straight romance, as in a man and a woman finding their happily ever after. I decided to write a lesbian romance- two women finding their happily ever after together, exactly like a… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance 2018 : First Kisses by Abigail Sharpe (Includes $5 Amazon Gift Card)

Celebrating Romance 2018 : First Kisses by Abigail Sharpe (Includes $5 Amazon Gift Card)

Hi, all!  I’m Abby and I write passionate, playful contemporary romance. It’s a privilege to share my love for all things romance with you and Scorching Book Reviews.  Thanks for having me, Nix! The trees swayed gently in the nighttime breeze, casting moving shadows over me and Mark. He bent down so his face was even with mine, his hazel eyes full of sweet wonder right before they closed, his lips inches from my own. I leaned into him…and giggled. Yeah. That was the prelude to my first kiss. What can I say? I was 15 and on my first date. All my practical experience so far had come from romance novels. I had more experience puckering up when I wrote my first novel, Who Wants to Marry a Cowboy (…for those participating in #Rombklove on Twitter 😉 ). It didn’t make that kiss any easier to write: The subtle vanilla imprinted on Riley’s brain like a duckling to its mother. He wanted to see if Ainsley’s lips tasted… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance : HEAs for the childless heroine : Guestpost by Rosanna Leo with Giveaway

Celebrating Romance : HEAs for the childless heroine : Guestpost by Rosanna Leo with Giveaway

Thanks so much to Nix for hosting me today. I am thrilled to be here. Romances. We all know and love them, right? I’d be willing to bet the majority of us have read many romances in which the protagonists get together, get married and start talking about having a baby. Very often in our genre, we get to meet these little tykes too. There are surprise babies, long-awaited babies, babies in peril, babies and puppies, you get the idea. “Happily ever after” often results in the gift of children. I’ve certainly written some of these romances myself and love them as much as the next person. We all love to believe our favorite heroes and heroines are seeing all their dreams come true. What I don’t think we get to read about enough about is childless protagonists. Let’s face it. Not everyone can have children, and there are just as many people who would rather not have the 2.5 kids and a minivan. So why aren’t we hearing more… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance : Kelly Maher talks Penzeys Spices, Rogue Hearts & offers a giveaway

Celebrating Romance : Kelly Maher talks Penzeys Spices, Rogue Hearts & offers a giveaway

Hello, fellow romance lovers! I’ve had the great honor to be a participant in two of the Rogue anthologies which are filled with stories of resistance-centered romance. Next week, the fourth anthology, Rogue Hearts, releases with my story “Coming Up Rosa.” The inspiration for my story is Penzeys Spices and the messages their president, Bill Penzey, includes in each newsletter. I’ve been a happy customer of theirs for over a decade, but in November 2016, Bill came out with a very strong message against racism and the attitudes that led to the election of our current president. The reaction to that newsletter, per Bill himself, was deeply felt with customers heatedly ceasing their custom with messages of Bill crossing a line with what he said and others, who had never before heard of Penzeys, embracing the company. This was not a one-off message. Since that November 2016 newsletter, Bill and company have routinely spoken out against new governmental policies they have felt are harmful to America and its citizens… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance 2018 : Romance – From privilege to diversity by Renee Dahlia

Celebrating Romance 2018 : Romance – From privilege to diversity by Renee Dahlia

Like many romance readers, my gateway books were Harlequin Historicals – mostly regency set books with husband hunters floating around ballrooms in gorgeous dresses, navigating the ridiculous etiquette, and making a rake fall hard in love. These books spoke to the young version of me on a very familiar level. I’d grown up with close connections to the aristocracy and my family idealised our heritage. As I’ve aged, I’ve understood the more difficult aspects of the aristocracy, and cringe at the way some members of my family idealise the past. My father is the current holder of a defunct Russian title. The Russian aristocratic system is more complex than the English one which regency readers are familiar with, however, his title is similar to a Baron. Technically speaking, my great-grandfather was the last actual holder of the title, as he held it up to the Russian Revolution of 1917, when he was forced to flee from Russia with his wife and six month old son (my grandfather). We grew… Keep Reading »

Celebrating Romance Month May 2018 : Info and Sign Up.

Celebrating Romance Month May 2018 : Info and Sign Up.

In May, we will be celebrating Romance on the blog. I am inviting authors, bloggers and readers to come on to the blog to talk about their love of the genre. I would LOVE for people to get involved. Who can get involved? Anyone. I want this event to show every part of romance, at every level. I also want to make this explicitly clear; this event will be fully inclusive and showcase diverse books – Romance should be for everyone and that’s something I want to promote. What kind of posts do I want? Authors choice! It could be about why you read romance, what your favorite genre is, a recommendation post or even a post about what we need to see more of in romance. It can even be a promo post (as long as it is more than just a blurb!) Will there be prizes to promote reader participation on the event? I will be giving away some prizes over the event and you are more… Keep Reading »

Sex Scene Championship 2017 : And the winner is…..

Thank you all to the authors who have contributed to the Sex Scene Championship 2017. I hope you had fun … I know I did! Voters, thank you so much for playing with us … I hope you had a wonderful time and found some brilliant new authors to read. Here is the winning scene from the 2017 championship courtesy of the lovely Lane Hart 🙂 Jax – Lane Hart Author Links : Website | Twitter Buy Links : Amazon   $1.31 Squaring her shoulders, Page seems to collect herself and her confidence when she walks towards me. She surprises the shit out of me when she actually jumps on me, wrapping her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck. My reflexes are quick, so I grab her ass to hold her up at the same time our lips meet, hot and hungry. Easily carrying her tall, lean weight, I make it inside her apartment and shut the door with my foot before clothes start flying. The fireman’s… Keep Reading »
