Scorching Book Reviews – My new weekly schedule the events calendar for 2018.

Scorching Book Reviews – My new weekly schedule the events calendar for 2018.

It’s been little old me for a while now and, because of that, the posting has been sporadic. I have posted many, many posts asking what you want to see here and you lovely people have been so helpful that I’ve got some ideas. I’ve decided on what will definitely be appearing here on the blog each week (anything else is a bonus, yes?)  and also what events I’ll be hosting this year so I thought, if I put them here, I’d have to stick to them, yes?? Alongside this, I will be making sure all my reviews are indexed (loads are not including one of my absolute favorites I shockingly discovered today) so I’ll be tweeting out the links to them when I make sure they are formatted correctly. So, here goes. Weekly Monday – Hot Cover Monday Tuesday – Tuesday Talk (if an author or blogger wants to Guest Post) Wednesday – Review Thursday – Random Musing (or ranting LOL) Friday – Freebie of the week Saturday – Review Sunday… Keep Reading »

Musing : I’ve been comfort reading like the world ran out of new authors…

Musing : I’ve been comfort reading like the world ran out of new authors…

Sometimes I feel like the worst blogger in the world. I look back over the last few months and all I can see is Top Pick Posts and Memes …. I just haven’t managed to get back into blogging like I thought but I think that’s because of one thing; I stopped reading new authors. When I look through my kindle, I’ve got around 2000 books. I haven’t read them all (seriously, I do need to sort that out) because I have an awful reading habit; I like to comfort read.     When the world is miserable and stressful, I turn to comfort reads. If I DNF a book, I turn to comfort reads. Sometimes, I just want to comfort read! In the last 3 months, I’ve reread all the Jill Shalvis Lucky Harbor series, all of the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh, all of the Faith Hunter Jane Yellowrock series and all of the Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series.  Once I start comfort reading,  I just can’t stop!… Keep Reading »

Random Musings : I have a series Binge reading issue but do you actually want reviews for them?

Random Musings : I have a series Binge reading issue but do you actually want reviews for them?

Alright guys, this is a question for you all about what you would like to read here on the blog. I am an absolute sucker for a series. I actually despair of myself because I KNOW that, if I like book one, I’m in for the long haul. My question is do you actually want to read my reviews for a series I came to late and then binge-read in a week? I’m worse with books than I am with NetFlix and I am BAD with Netflix 😉 I’ll give you a couple of examples to try explain my badly phrased question….. I recently read the Penny Reid Winston brothers series (books 2-4 anyway). The books could be read out of order without any major issues so I decided that I would just review the one I liked the most and do quickie reviews on GR for the others (when I get up to date… I am woefully behind with updating GR!). I also recently read the Jane Yellowrock series… Keep Reading »

Review Changes at Scorching Book Reviews

Review Changes at Scorching Book Reviews

Hola people 🙂 Well, as you can tell, I haven’t been as active. It isn’t that I can’t be bothered, it’s that I just don’t have the time. Running a blog solo is completely achieveable when you have free time but I haven’t any at the moment and so the blog has suffered. I’m putting some changes in place as of now to try to ease my stress levels about the lack of blogging and keep you all a bit up to speed 🙂  … Review Requests : I’m not accepting them. I have a pile that I still have to do (sorry authors!) and so it wouldn’t be fair on people waiting or on new authors to take any. I’m gonna review what I have, review what I buy and occasionally request from NetGalley until someone wants to take on some reviewing with me. Reviews : I like the one’s I’m doing now, so I’m going to stick with them. I like writing what I liked and didn’t like;… Keep Reading »

An apology and an update

Hey all I haven’t been posting much due to technical issues. I’ve been borrowing equipment when I can but it hasn’t led to very consistent blogging. Hopefully, I should be up and running soon … thank you so much to those still reading! I shall try to get this show on the road but, until that point, thanks for all the support 🙂 Nix   x

Musing Post : Stress, Real Life and the Book Blogging Blues…

Musing Post : Stress, Real Life and the Book Blogging Blues…

This is pretty much an apology post. Over the last month, I have been a shitty book blogger. The blog has mainly been Top Picks, Hot Cover and nothing else. I’m sorry readers, I promise I will do better.   Over the last couple of months, real life has gotten a little bit stressful. I’m organizing a wedding, my paying job has decided to suck donkey balls and I barely have enough time to clean my house (seriously, my house is a dump). I have had no time to review and, quite honestly, I’ve not had the will. Yes, the stress of real life has given me a case of the blogging blues and I have had to literally force myself to do anything. I think this happens from time to time with everyone but, being the solo blogger on Scorching Book Reviews now, it is more apparent when I do as the entire site is silent. This is not a whiny post though because things are calming down. I… Keep Reading »

Terry Pratchett and the Discworld Novels.

It’s not often I do this. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever written down my thoughts and feelings on the death of an author. Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever been this affected by the death of one. Today, the world lost a great author in Terry Pratchett and I am truly saddened that I shall never again be able to read or listen to the opinions of a man whose books got me through my awkward teen years. As a child, I was always a book-worm. I didn’t like people very much but books I loved. I got lost for hours in the worlds created by my favourite authors and, as you probably guessed, it didn’t really make me too popular. I didn’t know how to deal with the “mean-girls” or the social cliques but books I understood. I never felt as comfortable as I did with a book in my hands and one of my favourites authors was Terry Pratchett and his Discworld novels. These… Keep Reading »

Random Musing : Anyone got recommendations to help me achieve my reading resolutions?

Random Musing : Anyone got recommendations to help me achieve my reading resolutions?

My new year reading resolutions are simple and I need your help. There are certain genres that I want to read more of but I have no idea of where to start … here is my list readers. Help! (PS … on a side note, I seem to like GIF’s at the moment…don’t worry, they won’t be going into the reviews.) 1.  More FF romance Here’s the thing; I found out a long damn time ago that I have no preference on what sexuality the characters in a book have as long as it works. I have read quite a few FF books but the recommendations come in so few and far between that I have no idea what to read next . I want something deliciously angsty and sexy readers, GIMME RECS 🙂   2. More books with characters with disabilities   I’ve read quite a few books with heroes with a disability BUT I don’t think that I’ve ever read a book with a female lead with a… Keep Reading »

Scorching Reviews in 2015 : Resolutions, Changes and Future Events

Scorching Reviews in 2015 : Resolutions, Changes and Future Events

Hola and welcome to Scorching Book Reviews. Last year was challenging here on the blog. I became the solo reviewer and, because of the pressure, I lost my blogging mojo. Well, I’m doing some changes and I hope that it will be different in 2015. I want to take a step back and learn to love blogging again so here are my blogging resolutions … I have deleted Stat-counter … no more focusing on how well (or how not so well) the blog is doing with the general public. I want to blog for me! I am on a book-buying budget! I have so many books I own that I haven’t read … I shall only be spending a small amount of cash per month on new books. Clear the review pile. I plan to do this by June. Expand my reading tastes. I want to try more dystopian and FF romances. I’d also like to try some books with characters with disabilities. Comment on more blogs … I am… Keep Reading »
