Day Three of the BDSM Event ; Kele Moon talks the Eden Series and hosts a Giveaway

Posted in Uncategorized / 45 Comments

Welcome to Day THREE of the BDSM Appreciation Event here at Scorching Book Reviews. So far we still have the BDSM Blog Hop which you can enter here. Today, we have the amazing Kele Moon kicking off our author posts. She is also hosting a giveaway of her amazing books Finding Eden and Beyond Eden. She is giving away a copy of each of her books which CAN be read in either order (the prequel came out last, so can be read first or last). I fricking loved them both; they were recommended to me as part of a BDSM challenge and I’ve loved her work ever since. Anyhow, the brief was to write about what comes up in their books….so let’s see what Kele has to say…

Come to the Dark side. . . We have cookies.

Out of all the things I get asked to blog about—Dark BDSM is at the top of the list. Perhaps because when I need to, I embrace my dark side. It’s not all I write, quite the opposite, my Battered Hearts series is very vanilla flavored, but I found that for one reason or another I need to go back to the dark side and delve into some of the less understood sides of romance. I have several works in progress on my laptop that explores various aspects of dark BDSM. Some will see the light of day, some may not, but there is always an appeal in playing with the forbidden.
Love comes in many different forms and there is something so compelling to me as an author to create characters that are unconventional enough that the reader may not believe they’ll ever get their happily ever after. I love the rebels and deviants and I like to write them in a way that makes readers love them too. Different can be sexy if you just give it a chance.
When I first started Beyond Eden (A dark BDSM M/m/F story) I hadn’t planned on it being as dark as it was. However, when their story started unfolding, when I saw how much Paul enjoyed pain, how desperately he needed it to keep him grounded and how special his relationship with Danny was because his best friend was able to give him what he needed most—I decided to go all in.
Yes, this story has blood play. It’s dark and gritty and more often on the edge than not.
Why? Because that’s what the characters demanded. Paul is a big, tough masochist who likes to take it as hard as Danny will give it and then ask for more and I’ve always been of the opinion if you’re going to go there—GO THERE.
Don’t sugarcoat it because you’re afraid it’ll make readers squeamish. . . Which, lets be honest, there’s been plenty of readers who’ve made it clear they can’t deal with the blood play and kink in the Eden books. You can’t write dark BDSM erotic romance and not have a few haters. I actually love my review chart at amazon for Beyond Eden because it’s got plenty of 5 star reviews, absolutely no 3 or 4 stars, then a few 1 and 2 star reviews. It’s a love or hate book. People either love it for the darkness or hate it.
Mainstream is fun, but sometimes I have to rock the boat a little (Or a lot). I need to write the darker romances too, because make no mistake, Beyond Eden is still a love story about three very different people, who like three very different things, but still want the same thing everyone else does. . . To love and be loved without judgment and I think that’s the appeal for me. To give the deviants their happy endings, to show that everyone deserves to be loved, even a big, buff masochist with a dark past who didn’t believe he could allow himself to really be loved until two people came along and proved him wrong. Now what’s a little blood next to that?

  1. Some of the best books written I think are love or hate also! I look at reviews the same way when I’m decided on a book I don’t know anything about! Sometimes, it’s good to push those dark edges!

  6. I have read some BDSM, but am still new to it. I have not yet read one with blood play, but did recently read one with a little knife play. It was interesting. I do like dark characters and stories though. This series sounds intriguing. Thank you for the opportunity to read one of them.

  7. I think it's all about how it's handled. I remember during the heyday of FILAMENT magazine (why couldn't it have stuck around?), their articles always explained BDSM and even blood play in such a non-judgmental, almost loving way, that it reduced my squeamishness. And m/m/f is always worth a look…

  8. Amy–I hope you enjoy them 😀

    Anon–I agree. . .it's all in how it's handled!!

Tina–It's funny how we grow as readers (and writers) I have this rule that I'll never say I won't read (or write) such and such because more often than not i end up finding a book I love with it in it. . .

Kelsey–Wow! Thank you! I'm so glad!!

    Sue-

I do enjoy reading the darker, more intense books at times, just like there are times that I want more lighter, fun books. I guess it just depends on my mood.
