Dead, Undead and Somewhere Inbetween – JA Saare
One bad corpse can ruin your whole day.
No one knows that better than Rhiannon Murphy. She’s left behind the flash & sass of Miami for the no nonsense groove of New York City eager for a clean slate & a fresh start. A bartender by trade, a loud mouth by choice & a necromancer by chance, she’s managed to keep her nifty talent hidden from those around her – until now.
The deliciously good looking vampire Disco knows her secret & when he strolls into her bar to solicit help investigating the mysterious disappearances of his kind from the city, she discovers he’s not the kind of person that appreciates the significance of the word no. But in a world where vampires peddle their blood as the latest drug of choice, it’s only a matter of time before the next big thing hits the market. Someone or something is killing vampires to steal their hearts & unlike Rhiannon, this isn’t their first stroll around the undead block.
Now as Nix will quite happily tell you, I’ve been totally driving her crazy with my lack of reviewing for the blog! The body has been willing but the mind has been very weak! The trouble being that I’ve really been struggling with my reading recently. Usually I can read 4-5 books a week, but I’ve been struggling to read one.
This book however, has been an exception to that rule, I sat down & devoured it as quickly as I could! It also means that anything i’ve read after has had a awful lot to live up too…. I really, really liked this book! And for once folks, I know you’ll be proud of me, I didn’t want to slap any of the characters that i’m meant to be rooting for!
Rhiannon is one tough lady, who has a soft centre that she can’t afford to let anyone see. She’s had a lot of bad things happen to her in her life, things i’ll leave it to Rhi to tell you, that have made her the sassy smart ass that she is today.
Disco (love it!) is the head of one of the local vampire families & isn’t anything like i’d have expected him to be. He’s obviously hot, & he knows it, but when it comes to Rhi, he’s reserved, old fashioned, shocked at her language & seemingly shy… Man I love this vampire!
It’s been a while since i’ve read an Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal Romance this good & i’m sure it’ll appeal to fans of both genres. The writing really drags you in & keeps you gripped. It’s dark, a little gory, fast paced & thrilling. The sexual tension between the two main characters is pretty hot & with an amazing supporting cast, this book really has it all.
Some of you might not like how it ends, because boy is it a cliffhanger & a half, but it just makes me glad that The Renfield Syndrome (Rhiannon’s Law #2) is out so i can go read it now!
