Top Picks is a weekly meme that we do here at Scorching Book Reviews. In this post, I highlight the Romance books that I want to read that are released this week. They are books on my TR pile and only books we are interested in spending money on.

This week’s Top Picks are…

Rainy Day Friends: Wildstone Book 2 by [Shalvis, Jill]

Status on TR list: I enjoyed the first in the series for this one so I have pre-ordered this. It is very different to her other series (more angst).

It’s time to learn to trust again… Six months after her husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen Lanie Jacobs’ sense of pain and loss. But then she discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who also believed they were his legally wedded wife.

Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis but slowly comes to feel like she belongs, especially when Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff, manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart.

Everything is going well for her, until the arrival of River Brown. The fresh-faced twenty-one year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light – secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.

Fail Seven Times by [Ripper, Kris]

Status on TR list: Ooooh, I like the look of this one. I like Kris Ripper’s writing and I do like a good menage story. On the list.

Justin Simos knows a few things for sure: he’s gay, he’s an unrepentant jerk, and he’s in love with his best friend—and his best friend’s girlfriend.

Alex and Jamie aren’t like other people. They aren’t fazed by his moods. They laugh at his critical analysis of nineties cinema. They definitely want to have sex with him (…again), and Jamie wants a go at him with her favorite flogger. Despite the fact that the they’re perfect together, they want him to join them.

Justin doesn’t have words for this thing between the three of them, but he knows romance isn’t supposed to be part of it. As long as he ignores his feelings, maybe they can have fun. Keep it simple. Don’t fail.

Except Justin’s not great at simple, and real damn good at failing. He’s not brave enough to be with them, and trying might destroy everything. It’s too big a risk. He can’t be this strong, passionate person they see him as…unless maybe he already is.

Warning: some mentions of eating disorders. It’s not a focus of the book, but there are references, so please take care if you may find this triggering.

The Curse of the Black Swan (League of the Black Swan) by [Day, Alyssa]

Status on TR list: This was part of a boxset but the author is changing it to a series. I love the set-up and I do like Alyssa Day’s writing. On the list.

New York Times bestselling author Alyssa Day introduces the League of the Black Swan–and the dangerous game one woman plays when her family’s curse dooms her to kill the man she loves–in this thrilling novella.

A thousand years ago, Brynn Caroll’s ancestor was cursed: every third night, the eldest daughter of each generation is transformed into a black swan and forced to sing songs to the moon. When she meets the love of her life and bears him a daughter, the legacy is passed on to the next generation. Intent on ending the curse once and for all, Brynn refuses to fall in love. But she never anticipated meeting Sean O’Malley–a man who is also burdened by a difficult secret–and facing temptation like never before.

A New Orleans Threesome (The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf) by [Bacio, Louisa]

Status on the TR List : I have an issue with the price for this one (£6.30 for 180 pages feels high) so I am marking it and tracking the price. The set-up sounds amazing though and I have read the author before and enjoyed her style.

Haunted by paranormal abilities she can’t control and plagued by nightmares about a demon that seeks her soul, Lily Anima travels to New Orleans in search of salvation. She enlists the help of an unlikely couple: a vampire, Lawrence Justice, and a werewolf, Trevor Pack. The attraction is immediate and fierce.

There’s only one problem.

Lily’s a virgin. And whatever paranormal problem she’s having is what has kept her that way. Every time she’s tried to do the deed, something stops her.

Together, the trio encounters magic and unspeakable evil, and Trevor and Lawrence attempt to help Lily turn her powers into a gift rather than a curse. Ultimately, to get the demon off her back, Lily’s men will have to show her all the wicked ways the three of them can come together.

Warning: Read at your own risk. This book is filled to the brim with steamy m/m sex, a virgin who wants in on the action, and a c*ckblocking demon.
