This weeks pick is…..

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

Wow, this book is fantastic. Set years after the fall out from Darker After Midnight. This book focuses on Mira and she is everything that I expected her to be! A warrior in the new look breed warriors, she has been fighting for the cause for years. Unfortunately, she has been pretty unhappy and angry since the man she assumed would be her mate, Kellan, was killed by human rebels. Then he returns, a traitor and she doesn’t know what to do. All the old feelings remain but he betrayed both her and their people, letting her believe he was dead. When it looks like Kellan has been betrayed by other factions, they have to work together to prevent almost certain war… but will they be able to keep their hands off each other?

This book was so blooming brave! I loved the new-look Earth and all its new perils. I enjoyed seeing old favorites but I have a feeling they only appeared so much to ease the transitions for fans. This story arc does not belong to them; it belongs to all of their children. I loved it and I loved reading about all these new young faces. This is the only thing that concerned me; they are all so blooming young it may feel like reading YA in a very violent world! I did, however, want to punch Kellan in the face repeatedly during this book. He hadn’t done right by Mira and he seemed to want to keep treating her badly whilst trying to keep her safe. Seriously Alpha Men…. just ask what your women want! When they got together it was amazing and I loved the entire tale. It’s an exciting new era in the breed books and I cannot wait for the next installment 🙂
