Top Picks is a weekly meme that we do here at Scorching Book Reviews. In this post, we highlight the Romance books that we want to read that are released this week. They are books on our TR pile and only books we are interested in spending money on.
This week’s Top Picks are…
Status on TR list : I really enjoy this series so this in on the list. It does say it’s a spin off – I have no idea if you can read it without the previous series (although I recommend them).
He saved her life once. Now it’s her turn.
Bounty hunter turned corporate troubleshooter, Ezra Tate never thought his path would cross again with the bear shifter female he’d helped rescue from a basement prison in Lake Tahoe. But stranger things have happened.
Theodora Jackson is on a solo motorcycle trip to try to rediscover her identity after a terrible ordeal that almost killed the bear spirit that lives inside her. She remembers the strong Alpha presence of the man who wouldn’t let her give up in those first few hours and days after her rescue. She’s never forgotten him, but she doesn’t know who she is now, and isn’t sure if Ezra even remembers her.
When they run into each other on the road heading for the same town, it’s clear there’s still something between them. Sparks fly as they confront an evil that’s trying to cause bloodshed at a world famous motorcycle rally, Ezra hunts down drug runners, and Thea rediscovers the Alpha animal inside her…and that she wants sexy Ezra for her mate.
Note: Grizzly Cove Crossroads is a spinoff of the ongoing Grizzly Cove series, which is connected to all my other paranormal romances, including the Tales of the Were and the Brotherhood of Blood, and all the related series. For a full list check out the “Books” page on my site or the book list at the back of this book.
Status on TR List : I love Lexi Blake and her series – they are sexy and crazy. I’m only putting this one on the list but I will be buying the Larissa Ione too.
Remy Guidry doesn’t do relationships. He tried the marriage thing once, back in Louisiana, and learned the hard way that all he really needs in life is a cold beer, some good friends, and the occasional hookup. His job as a bodyguard with McKay-Taggart gives him purpose and lovely perks, like access to Sanctum. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman with stars in her eyes and babies in her future.
Lisa Daley’s life is going in the right direction. She has graduated from college after years of putting herself through school. She’s got a new job at an accounting firm and she’s finished her Sanctum training. Finally on her own and having fun, her life seems pretty perfect. Except she’s lonely and the one man she wants won’t give her a second look.
There is one other little glitch. Apparently, her new firm is really a front for the mob and now they want her dead. Assassins can really ruin a fun girls’ night out. Suddenly strapped to the very same six-foot-five-inch hunk of a bodyguard who makes her heart pound, Lisa can’t decide if this situation is a blessing or a curse.
As the mob closes in, Remy takes his tempting new charge back to the safest place he knows—his home in the bayou. Surrounded by his past, he can’t help wondering if Lisa is his future. To answer that question, he just has to keep her alive.
The Lexi Blake Crossover Collection features a new novel by Lexi Blake and five books by some of her favorite writers:
Lexi Blake – Close Cover
Larissa Ione – Her Guardian Angel
J. Kenner – Justify Me
Corinne Michaels – Say You Won’t Let Go
Carly Phillips – His to Protect
Susan Stoker – Rescuing Sadie
Status on the TR List : I love this author (although I am worried that this one is classed as women’s fiction as I don’t have good experiences with this genre). It’s on the possible list – I will be waiting for reviews.
The heart may hide, but it never forgets.
Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.
But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos – the first and only love of her life – the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world – growing from her gangly teen friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother . . . only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.
Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more – spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco reading books, sharing favourite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.
The first women’s fiction novel from New York Times and No. 1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Dating You, Hating You).
Status on the TR List : On the list! I loved book one…
How many coupons does it take to fall in love?
Flick Dalgetty knows what she wants and how to get it, which is why she’s about to start her dream job in Washington. Until then, she needs somewhere to crash, and Tom O’Connell’s place is her sole option. He’s a repressed, antisocial ogre…but man can he kiss.
For Tom, being around Flick is like being too close to the sun. Her untamed energy is overwhelming, and he’d spontaneously combust if he had to live with her long-term. Housemates with benefits—and an expiration date—suits him just fine.
Then Flick gives Tom thirty coupons, each entitling him to one obligation-free activity, from bowling and bubble-bathing to morning delight, removing all the guesswork from being incompatible partners and shifting their fling into high gear.
Now the problem is their arrangement is drawing to a close, and they might be falling in love—and there wasn’t a coupon for that.
This book is approximately 90,000 words
One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you’re looking for with an HEA/HFN. It’s a promise!
Status on the TR List : On the list – I LOVED the other books by this author.
There’s no resisting the thrum of temptation in this male/male rock-star romance from genre-favorite author Anna Zabo!
Twisted Wishes front man Ray Van Zeller is in one hell of a tight spot. After a heated confrontation with his bandmate goes viral, Ray is hit with a PR nightmare the fledgling band so doesn’t need. But his problems only multiply when they snag a talented new drummer—insufferably sexy Zavier Demos, the high school crush Ray barely survived.
Zavier’s kept a casual eye on Twisted Wishes for years, and lately, he likes what he sees. What he doesn’t like is how out of control Ray seems—something Zavier’s aching to correct after their first pulse-pounding encounter. If Ray’s up for the challenge.
Despite the prospect of a glorious sexual encore, Ray is reluctant to trust Zavier with his band—or his heart. And Zavier has always had big dreams; this gig was supposed to be temporary. But touring together has opened their eyes to new passions and new possibilities, making them rethink their commitments, both to the band and to each other.
This book is approximately 102,000 words.
Status on the TR List : Friends to lovers – I’m in! New to me author but this one has been pre-ordered.
Stacey Winters is in love with love, but so far, she’s only found Mr. Dud, Mr. Cheater, and Mr. Boring. Even though her best friend Grant isn’t an option, at least being around him offers her a window into the male psyche—and sets the bar high for her future Mr. Right.
But then she accidentally crosses the friend zone and kisses him, and it starts to feel a little too much like he might be what she’s been looking for…
Grant Phillips doesn’t do relationships. A casualty of the foster care system, he knows people are just looking for a reason to bolt. “No attachments” is his hard and fast rule. There’s only one exception: his best friend, Stacey. He refuses to jeopardize what they have.
But now that he knows how good it felt to kiss her, felt the addictive slide of her body against his, Stacey Winters is indelibly stamped onto Grant’s brain—and not just as his friend.
He is so screwed.
Status on TR list : I love Jenna Bayley Burke’s work – and this one sounds fun.
Hannah Daniels reads steamy romance novels to forget her last trip on the love roller coaster shredded her heart and tossed it like confetti. Her instincts about men stink, but at work they’re on point. Only her busy schedule means she reads whenever she can make time. Like at the laundromat while sitting on top of a washing machine. Don’t judge.
Firefighter Mason McNally has searched his whole life for a woman who stirs his soul. When he finds her, she’s nose-deep in a racy paperback atop a vibrating washer. Her beauty, boldness, and raw sensuality ignite his interest. But there’s a problem. He’s forgotten he’s wearing a wedding ring.
No amount of hasty explanations that it’s for his brother’s psychology experiment convinces her to give him a chance. But he’s rushed into fiery situations before, and this woman is totally worth the risk. He’ll just have to prove to her that first impressions can be wrong and their spark of attraction is oh so right.
Status on TR list : I already pre-ordered it – can’t help it; pride and predjudice rewrites are click-bait to me. I like Rosalie Stanton’s work – hopefully this one works for me.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that first impressions are a bitch.
In a sea of college freshmen, Elizabeth Bennet feels more like a den mother than a returning student. She’d rather be playing Exploding Kittens than dodge-the-gropers at a frat party, but no way was she letting her innocent, doe-eyed roommate go alone.
Everything about Meryton College screams old money—something she and Jane definitely are not—but Elizabeth resolves to enjoy herself. That resolve is tested—and so is her temper—when she meets Will Darcy, a pompous blowhole with no sense of fun, and his relentlessly charming wingman, Charlie.
Back at school after prolonged break, Will Darcy is far too old and weary for coeds. Yet even he can see why Charlie spontaneously decides the captivating Jane is “the one.” What throws Will is his own reaction to Jane’s roommate.
Elizabeth’s moonlight skin and shining laugh hit him like a sucker punch. And he doesn’t like it. Elizabeth Bennet is dangerous, not only because she has a gift for making him make an ass of himself, but because she and her razor-sharp wit could too easily throw his life off course, and he can’t afford for that to happen again.
Yet he also can’t seem to stay away.
Warning: Contains explicit language, very adult scenarios, and references to past sexual assault and drug abuse. A buttoned-down hero with a mile-wide guardian streak, a brash heroine with a nine-mile-wide streak of feminism, a little prejudice, a little more heat, a lot of pride, and a whole lot more love.
Status on TR list : I’m highlighting this one. It’s a charity boxset full to the brim with authors I adore (Cari Quinn, Taryn Elliott & Cassadra Carr to name a few) and it has some that I’ve wanted to read. A great price, a great cause & a boatload of authors I want to try – I’ve pre-ordered.
