Top Five Wednesday : Werewolves

Posted February 3, 2021 by Nix in Top Five / 2 Comments

Top Five is a monthly post which I will feature on a Wednesday.

I’m going to pick a theme/trope/topic/character type and then list MY Top Five of that pick.

Here I will add the caveat that I have not read every book in the genre; these are personal choices. I would LOVE to read your favourites in the comments.

This Month, I’m going to focus on … WEREWOLVES

Kiss of Snow (Psy-Changeling, #10)

Character : Hawke

Series : Psy-Changeling #10

To be read in order? : Yes

Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.

Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would’ve been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.

Then Sienna changes the rules and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other’s secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight…

A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna’s darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home…and the alpha who is its heartbeat…

I love this series and I love Hawke. Although his book is not my favourite of the series, he is consistantly one of my favourite characters. From his relationship with Lucas to the way he runs the pack, he is the ultimate Alpha wolf and I love him.

Blood Heir (Aurelia Ryder, #1)

Character : Derek Gaunt

Book : Book 1 Aurelia Ryer

To be read in order? : This needs to be read after the Kate Daniells world books.

From Ilona Andrews, an all-new novel set in the Kate Daniels World and featuring Julie Lennart-Olsen, Kate and Curran’s ward.

Atlanta was always a dangerous city. Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it’s a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival.

Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was. Now she’s back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name—Aurelia Ryder—drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind. An ancient power is stalking her adopted mother, Kate Daniels, an enemy unlike any other, and a string of horrifying murders is its opening gambit.

If Aurelia’s true identity is discovered, those closest to her will die. So her plan is simple: get in, solve the murders, prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, and get out without being recognized. She expected danger, but she never anticipated that the only man she’d ever loved could threaten everything.

One small misstep could lead to disaster. But for Aurelia, facing disaster is easy; it’s relationships that are hard.

I fucking LOVE Derek. He is one of the best characters in the Kate Daniels world and then we have this book … he is wonderful. A man who has survived the worst of upbringings, suffers life changing injuries trying to save the girl and then becomes a Beta in a wolf pack, he is the ultimate example of a self-made man,

If Aurelia ends up with that bloody Xscanio, I will be so annoyed.

Go Fetch! (Magnus Pack, #2)

Character : Conlon

Series : Magnus Pack #2

Read in order? : No

How much trouble can one small female be to a modern-day shapeshifting Viking? Well…it really depends on local gun laws.

Conall Víga-Feilan, direct descendent of Viking shifters, never thought he’d meet a female strong enough to be his mate. He especially didn’t think a short, viper-tongued human would ever fit the bill. But Miki Kendrick isn’t some average human. With an IQ off the charts and a special skill with weapons of all kinds, Miki brings the big blond pooch to his knees—and keeps him there.

Miki’s way too smart to ever believe in love and she knows a guy like Conall could only want one thing from her. But with the Pack’s enemies on her tail and a few days stuck alone with the one man who makes her absolutely wild, Miki is about to discover how persistent one Viking wolf can be.

This is the first Shelly Laurenston series I read and Conlon stands out. A secret Alpha, he looks like such a nice guy until his buttons are pushed .. and boy does Mikki push his buttons. Sexy, funny, bossy Conlon … I recommend.

Play of Passion (Psy-Changeling #9)

Character : Drew

Series : Psy-changleing #9

To be read in order? : Yes

In his position as tracker for the SnowDancer pack, it’s up to Drew Kincaid to rein in rogue changelings who have lost control of their animal halves- even if it means killing those who have gone too far. But nothing in his life has prepared him for the battle he must now wage to win the heart of a woman who makes his body ignite… and who threatens to enslave his wolf.

Lieutenant Indigo Riviere doesn’t easily allow skin privileges, especially of the sensual kind- and the last person she expects to find herself craving is the most wickedly playful male in the den. Everything she knows tells her to pull back before the flames burn them both to ash… but she hasn’t counted on Drew’s will.

Now, two of SnowDancer’s most stubborn wolves find themselves playing a hot, sexy game even as lethal danger stalks the very place they call home.

Drew and Indigo’s books is one of my favourite and that is mainly due to Drew. Happy, charming, bad-ass Drew who hunts down Rogue’s for his pack if he needs to. His role was so lonely – I couldn’t wait for his books. Then he matched with Indigo and she makes him WORK for it … I love his wooing.

Changeling Moon (Changeling, #1)

Character : Connor

Series : Changeling Moon #1

Read in order? : No

He roams the moonlit wilderness, his every sense and instinct on high alert. Changeling wolf Connor Macleod and his Pack have never feared anything — until the night human Zoey Tyler barely escapes a rogue werewolf’s vicious attack.

As the full moon approaches, Zoey has no idea of the changes that are coming, and only Connor can show her what she is, and help her master the wildness inside.

With her initiation into the Pack just days away and a terrifying predator on the loose, the tentative bonds of trust and tenderness are their only weapons against a force red in tooth, claw … and ultimate evil.

A vet werewolf? I loved him! Connor is a wonderful hero and I loved him from start to finish … he was so gentle and just a very different kind of werewolf hero.

Blood heir is wonderful – I loved reading Julie’s next chapter.

This is the only series from Dani Harper I’ve managed to get into but I love it 🙂
