In Bed with the Opposition by Stephanie Draven is a fun and sexy story of boy meets girl at college, falls heavy, she leaves him and years later they run into each other. I know, it sounds fairly straight forward. However, add into this mix, politics, campaigning for competing opponents, an ex who treats her like a sometime booty call and blackmail and you get In Bed with the Opposition. Who would have thought that politics and love go together? Politics and sex, definitely, and there is definitely sex in this, when they get close to each other they burn. Not even a cloakroom is safe!
It’s a good story and I did enjoy it, it passed away a snowy afternoon quite happily and I became totally invested in the story of Grace Santiago and Ethan Castle. The story begins when they run into each other years after meeting at college and we soon learn that Grace is the one that got away. She suddenly left college and Ethan after failing her exams. Ethan doesn’t know why, but we learn that she was being blackmailed by a fellow student after they took pictures of her an Ethan being intimate in the library. I know! Scumbag!! Anyway, this is the situation we are in, Grace does her best to keep her life private and live quietly, she has rules she made and sticks too, but Ethan up ends all of his as he searches for answers to what happens and how to get Grace back. It doesn’t help that she has eyes for her bosses grandson Blaine. Or as her best friend calls him, Malibu Ken! But Blaine takes her for granted, he was her first lover and she has always held a torch, however Blain sees her as a convenient port in a storm. There is much more to it than that but I will let you discover it and make your own mind up about Blaine.
Life for Grace and Ethan does not go smoothly as they end up on opposite campaigns and life looks to ruin their campaign as old secrets are revealed, but true love has a way of winning through in the end. I really did enjoy learning about Grace and Ethan and whilst I would categorise this story as more romance than erotica there is definitely erotic scenes and the romance between them is hot. It left me with a smile and a happy little glow. Just what I needed as the snow will just not quit!
I am not a political beast, and if you aren’t either don’t be put off by this, yes it is set in the US political system (of which I am totally confused) yes it is about a primary race for the Senate (yip, me either) but it didn’t put me off, in fact it didn’t hinder understanding at all. Most people understand the basics of politics, you campaign, people vote. As long as you have this concept you should be fine!
