Lady Chrissie Wellsby and her two country friends research dozens of rogues before selecting the notorious Viscount Hawkesbury, owner of London’s most exclusive and expensive brothel, to educate them in erotic seduction. The ladies abandon respectability and coerce Justin Tremayne into letting them visit The Pleasure House and to teaching them the sensual tricks mistresses and prostitutes use to entertain men.
Though Justin believes three naive ladies will see the debauched romps in his themed rooms, cover their eyes and ears, and run back to their sheltered lives, he underestimates the desperation of abandoned women who imagine a wider knowledge of sex will keep the men in their lives at home, in their own beds. But despite watching several of their friends, men and women, perform raunchy acts at his brothel, the ladies insist on participating in the last of Justin’s infamous Sultan’s galas, held in numerous silk tents and outdoor bathing areas on his estate.
Justin concedes to Chrissie’s demands only to gain information about his long-lost mother and sisters, but the world-weary viscount falls head over heels in love with his emotionally bruised pupil. He yearns for a wife, children, and an uncomplicated wife, but can he convinced Chrissie to take a chance and marry again? Because Justin never wants to leave her bed.
The Vicount’s Pleasure House by Suzi Love is an erotic romance set against the backdrop of early Victorian London and its hidden debauchery. And it was debauched, all hidden, all secret, and this novel makes good use of that. Justin’s Tremayne, Vicount Hawkesbury, is one of London’s most notorious bachelors. Having been forced to leave London because of his father he returns many years later after his fathers death to inherit the title, restore his families fortunes and find his mother and sisters who were forced onto the street by his father. Justin found the only way he had to make money was by joining the worlds oldest profession, satisfying women and arranging satisfaction for men. This lead to him running his own pleasure house and baths. But Justin is bored and sick of it and wants out, no longer finding any titillation in his enforced career. Having invested his money wisely in more traditional industries and having found a buyer for his pleasure house he is ready to walk away when his world is turned around.
In walks Lady Chrissie Wellsby, (literally, that iz how the novel starts, he is auditioning new girls and she walks in, well you can imagine what he thinks!) Chrissie is a widow and spokesperson for her 2 best friends, all of whom need help. They want a sexual education and decide that Justin can arrange it for them in return Chrissie will help to locate his family. She already has people who believe they know where they are hiding. What does Justin have to lose, other than his sanity, as it turns out he loses his heart and regains his interest in sex, but he has eyes only for Chrissie.
This is a story of sexual awakening and how it can happen at any time in your life, no matter what your history or circumstance may be. It is about finding love in unusual places and yes it is erotic romance. So the erotica, is it hot? Yes. The scenes between Justin and Chrissie are tense and erotic, full of emotion and sexual steam. Add to this voyeurism at the pleasure house and his past coming back to bite him at a group gathering and you have an interesting story.
We find out as the story goes on about why Justin had to leave and about Chrissie’s married life, why she is looking for his mother and sisters and why she is seeking a sexual education. She is accompanied by her two bets friends, both of whom have their own needs and sub plots, and as Justin is usually accompanied by his two besties (Bart and Thomas) things seem to have a way of working out. But don’t think it a case of besties meeting up, because these two ladies are either married or betrothed! However happy endings seem to be on the cards for everyone.
It’s a fun and cute erotic romp and at 151 pages it is not overly long and could be enjoyed over a couple of hours. I have to be honest, when I started reading, I was quite happy to continue reading. So if you fancy a read about the reception of a very naughty viscount, then give it a go. I give The Vicount’s Pleasure House a minxy 4 stars.
