Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges…
Leila’s psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn’t sure what the future holds. If that weren’t enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she’s also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won’t admit that he loves her.
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity…
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity
What can I say about Twice Tempted? I started it at 6am this morning, it’s 3pm now and I have finished and I am reviewing it, why? Because I thoroughly enjoyed it! Yes Vlad is a really sexy, psychotic control freak, yes Leila needs a bloody good slap in the beginning and had me screaming NOOOOO at her, but doesn’t that just go to show how thoroughly invested I was in this book. I’m not saying. It is perfect, it isn’t, but it is a bloody good read. It is the second in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Prince series and the continuing story of Vlad and Leila.
As many of you know, I love the Night huntress books, have read them all, been there from the first book and my friend Vicky’s recommendation. I love Bones and Cat, but one of the stand out characters in the books for me was Vlad due to his multi faced and complex nature. You just want to wind him up and then kiss it all better! Ok, perhaps that is just me, but I don’t believe I am alone in that.
This series is a great addition, each one an episode in a much larger story, will they allow themselves to love each other, or won’t they. But as always obstacles are in heir way, firstly their own untrusting nature secondly those wanting to kill Leila. I have already said that there are times when I thought she needed a slap, but it was her inexperience in the vampire work and Vlad’s secretive nature whiched caused it. One of my favourite parts was when her friend Marty said that she was the only one surprised, that everyone else sees Vlad how he is. In my mind she sees Vlad through love goggles and that just melts your heart! She also sees him through lust goggles, and I don’t blame her as those bits are as hot as Vlad himself.
Is it a Night Huntress book with different characters? No. If you are expecting that, or even expecting lots of visits from Bones and Cat then don’t, you’ll only be disappointed. Look at this as its own adventure and certainly a voyage of discovery in vampire human relations. I mean he’s cruel, bitter and possessive and she is neurotic, modern and electrifying, will they make it work? Will they bend for each other, will he save her from those trying to kill her and will she save him from being engulfed in his own legend. That would be telling!
I know, I haven’t given away any of the plot, talked about the other characters or done anything more than have a big fangirly squeeeee of excitement. But that is how I felt. This book was my own purchase and I spent good money on it and I enjoyed it. Next is Lover at Last but after that, I may just read Vlad number 1 again, or even Spade in Frist drop of Crimson! Vlad has whetted my appetite for Frost Vampires and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!
I give Twice Tempted 4.8 out of 5. Not quite perfect, but a bloody good attempt at it! Go, read it…. You just might like it!
*A Nix Edit – It’s going down as 5 Stars….I’m not doing 4.8 stars….I’m just not! 🙂
