A Nix Release Day PNR Review – Haunted Sanctuary by Moira Rogers (4 Stars)

Eden Green can’t remember a time she didn’t believe in monsters—her cousin was born one. Her family’s dark past casts a long shadow, making it hard to make friends and harder to commit to a lover. She lives a quiet life in small-town Clover, Tennessee, but she’s always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Tired of the city packs’ corruption, yet too alpha to be a subordinate in a sanctuary town, Jay Ancheta satisfies his need to protect by serving as Clover’s Chief of Police. As much as he’s drawn to Eden, he can’t offer forever to a woman who doesn’t know what he is—or trust himself to let her go after one taste.

When Eden’s cousin and his battered pack stagger into town, their tormentors hard on their heels, Eden is bitten in the chaos. Now Jay not only has a traumatized pack to deal with, but a newly turned wolf with enough hungry alpha power to consume them both.

With their combined strength, they can create a new sanctuary—if their passion can survive the ghosts of the Green family’s legacy.

Warning: Contains a newly turned werewolf heroine who enjoys a little rough dominance in bed and a badass alpha wolf hero who’ll fight bad guys, ghosts and even the past to protect what’s his. Be prepared for violence, death and heartbreak on the way to a happily ever after.

This book was certainly a wild ride! It started with a bang and ended with more questions for me than it answered so I know that I have found yet another series that I have to continue with! With a dynamite mated couple in the lead roles, this is a very fast paced sexy novella that certainly entertains.
The action pretty much starts on the first page and, within a very small number of pages, Eden establishes her cousin is a werewolf, discovers that the Local Sheriff is a werewolf with a crush on her and then, finally, gets bitten by a werewolf herself and turns into one. …basically, a lot happened! However, it didn’t feel like an information dump and set a high pace for the book that made me want to continue.
The word “mate” gets mentioned pretty early in the book. I am NOT a fan of the insta-mate scenario (what if it’s a complete AHole who you insta-mate with …WHAT IF?!?!) and I am ever so thankful that these two had a relationship before the bite. Eden and Jay were drawn to each other as humans and the wolves just cemented the deal.  I really liked that…it made it more real and allowed me to relax into enjoying their relationship.
They had a lot to do, training Eden in her new nature whilst protecting the refugees from their tormentors.  I enjoyed meeting the whole darned crew and can’t wait to see some of these characters in future books. They had been through some horrible abuse and I thought their grief and distress was written very very well. I wanted them to heal and my heart bled at a particular event because I honestly wanted everything to be magically OK. It wasn’t of course.
The bulk of this novella is about Jay and Eden and their developing relationship. They need to give a united front of leadership but to do that they need to get her under control. The time they have is limited and, of course, they need to stop to have sexy time. There is a whole lot of chemistry in this book and it leads to some scorching hot sex. That’s one thing I love about ‘shifter romances; it’s pointless acting coy when the object of your affection can use all his/her heightened senses to know exactly what they do to you! The sex is incredibly hot and frequent which is just the way I like it!
This is a fast-paced PNR with loads of dirty sex and a very sexy Alpha hero. I enjoyed it immensely and will be trying the next one as I became slightly emotionally invested in the damaged refugees…. I want a HEA for all!!!! J
