His Dragon, her magick, a dark mystery, and hot sparks!

Kirin is summoned home to Miami when his father goes missing–the man who ruined his life, and his relationship with Elle, by being a suspect in her mother’s disappearance. When he runs into Elle, sparks fly, especially when he discovers her father is missing, too. Suspecting that their disappearances are linked, they must combine his Dragon power and her magick to find the truth in the darkest shadows. But as their desires flare again, can their burning passion overcome their past—or the danger that the future holds?

Disclosure time. This review was requested from NetGalley but is being done after I requested to feature the author post for Authors After Dark 2013. She couldn’t commit but requested a review and I agreed. Although this may seem like it would cause me to be falsely positive about this novella, I hasten to add that it wouldn’t. I’d have done the review anyway and talk Ms Rush that I wasn’t doing it as a spotlight. There is no point in lying; you always get found out. Sorted? Good.
This book seems to fit well with the theme of the blog this week because it’s all about dragons! This is the first in a new series all about dragon shifters and I liked the new slant it brought to the mythology of this genre. In this one the dragons are present all the time but, when the Dragon is in human form, it exists as a tattoo on the skin. When a dragon mates, he mates for life and that has what has happened with Kirin.  He mated with Elle but allowed her to break up with him when the truth about an affair between his Father and her Mother came out. Since then, he has moved away, denied his dragon and been a bit of a miserable bugger to be honest. Then daddy-dearest goes missing in mysterious circumstances so he has to return to his home and face the woman he loves because chances are her dad has something to do with the whole mess. Bit of a mess right?
I liked the premise and it definitely intrigued me enough to get the next in the series. A whole series about Dragons? Sign me up. The characters in this one were well written and the plot flowed smoothly. Kellen was a fantastic Alpha dragon, who was man enough to admit to his feelings, and Elle was a kick-ass heroine who accepted that she couldn’t fight her feelings. It was a star-crossed lover’s tale that I really enjoyed and the previous relationship angle totally hooked me in.  The sex scenes were incredibly hot and, due to the previous relationship angle, I bought into their chemistry which made reading them even better. I appreciated the lack of the insta-mate plot and the fact that both man and dragon had picked Elle as their one-and-only gave me a case of the warm and fuzzies J

I have to admit though, I did get a little confused as to what was going on at certain points with the mystery plot. There was a whole lot going on and it was only a 120 page novella. It was a very brief whistle-stop introduction into this world and, although I had my issues with it because I struggled to keep up, it was overall a very good promising to a series that I will undoubtedly continue. It was also incredibly funny with pop-culture references that had me chuckling all the way to work. Would I recommend it? Yes, I really would.
Overall, I requested this book for a Spotlight post but I have added the next two books to my sleeves on GR because of it. I have found a fresh, funny and sexy series set in a fascinating world full of hunky dragon shifters. I am very much looking forward to the next in the series.

About the Author

Hi! I’m Jaime Rush, also known as Tina Wainscott, author of 24 books and 3 novellas, mostly paranormal romantic suspense. My first book was ON THE WAY TO HEAVEN (April 1995) and my new PNR series, called The Hidden, debuts June 4, 2013, with the e-novella, DRAGON MINE.

Miami, a city of decadence, sunshine, and Dragons, Angels, and Sorcerers. As humans who hold the essence of ancient gods, Crescents walk the knife’s edge between the mundane and the Hidden, a dangerous world of dark magick, deadly power, and hot passion.

My first Jaime Rush series, the Offspring (Avon Books/Harper Collins), is about a group of twenty-somethings with enhanced psychic abilities who discover they are the offspring of parents involved in a mysterious experiment. Together they must find the truth and fight an enemy out to destroy them. Think X-Files meets Friends meets Heroes.

Look for my bargain ebook re-releases! (originally published under Tina Wainscott) Romance, suspense, and a touch of the paranormal!

  1. Thanks so much for featuring my book, Nix! Great review 🙂 I love exploring ex-lovers who are still in love, and don't want to be–LOL. And yes, there was a LOT going on that I had to cover, and all will be wrapped up in the second novella, out in Oct.

I'll pop back by if anyone has any questions or comments.

    Cheers!
