Mixed martial arts fighter Reid Andrews’s chance to reclaim his title as light heavyweight champ is shattered when he’s injured only months before the rematch. To make sure he’s healed in time, his trainer sends him to recuperate under a professional’s care—Reid’s best friend’s little sister, all grown up.

Disorganized and bookish Lucie Miller needs some professional help of her own. She’d do anything to catch the eye of a doctor she’s crushed on for years, so when Reid offers seduction lessons in exchange for 24/7 conditioning for the biggest fight of his career, Lucie jumps at the chance.

Soon Reid finds himself in the fight of his life . . . winning Lucie's heart before she gives it to someone else.

FTC : I bought this with my money. All opinions (and snark) are my own.

This is a short review as my aim is to review everything I read…crazy huh?

I have been so impressed with the Brazen line, I’ve gone on a massive binge of them. This was the one I had heard the most about, so this is the one I started with!

This book covers A LOT of the tropes that are favorites for romance readers. Reid, the hero is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter who sidelines as a sculptor (a common combination…(!)). He is sent to a new physical therapist to get rid of a potentially career ending injury and low and behold it is good friend’s little sister who used to have a massive crush on him. As he needs to move fast on the injury, he decides to move in with her and, in exchange for the inconvenience, he gives her seduction lessons.  Can he resist her charms as he attempts to turn her into a sex-Goddess?

Lucie is a woman so engrossed in her own work, she doesn’t have a life outside of it. Desperately trying to catch the attention of Dr perfect at work, she jumps at the chance Reid offers her when he offers to be her sex-guru. Problem is, she always had a crush on him and he has turned into a tattooed, muscled hunk of a man. Will Dr perfect live up to her expectations after having such a tempting teacher?

So, this checked a lot of boxes for me because there were so many tropes rammed into it. It’s a bit like The Ugly Truth (see here) crossed with any I’ve-fell-for-my-older-brothers-best-friend book you’ve ever read. The problem was, there was so much rammed into the book, I felt like the character of Lucie was a little bit inconsistent to deal with the conflicting sides of Reid’s character. At times she was awesome and at others, I wanted to throw her through a window (or my phone through said window…which I happened to be reading on the time).

Reid is awesome because he is all my favorite tropes in one mash-up (I felt the sculptor thing was a bit much though… it was a bit of a strange addition which seemed to add a gratuitous artistic side to him whilst never furthering the plot). The book was trying to please too many people at once and what could have been a fabulous read was just a fun, quick one instead. I enjoyed it, especially the sex scenes which were awesome, but I never really fell in love with it. I will read the next simply because I have high hopes for this series.

Overall, a fun steamy read which is trope heavy but stands up anyway. If you like ’em short, steamy and full of testosterone, this one to try 🙂
