A Rae Review – Rocky Mountain Heat by Vivian Arend (4.5 Stars)

Blake Coleman is old enough to know that acting on impulse causes nothing but a heap of trouble. But when trouble’s a western-hat-wearing blonde with slim legs that go on forever, what’s a man to do? Wanting the sweet girl next door is just wrong. The responsible thing to do is keep his hands off.
Jaxi has other plans for Blake’s hands, and his heart. She may have once considered him a big brother, but that was a long time ago. She’s all grown up now and ready to convince him that she’s perfect for him. Except he can’t seem to see past the big “don’t touch” sign that’s apparently still hanging around her neck.
When Jaxi ends up living right under Blake’s nose, the undeniable heat between them slides off simmer and leaps up to barn-burning levels. However, a few of the younger six-pack Colemans have decided Jaxi’s brand of trouble is worth risking a few busted bones.
That is, if Blake’s finally ready to let go the reins and fight for what he wants…
Warning: Sexy cowboys seducing and being seduced in trucks, pool halls and barns. Droolworthy country charm, a little double-teaming, a few secrets and a whole lot of brothers to look forward to. Anyone wanna go for a ride?

Blake Coleman is the oldest of the Coleman boys and runs the ranch alongside his father and younger brothers.  When his mother breaks her arm, longtime family friend and neighbor Jaxi moves in to help out around the house.  For years, Jaxi has felt more than sisterly feelings for Blake, but he refuses to see it forcing her to show him just how grown up she is and that the age difference doesn’t matter to anyone but him.

Having never read any Vivian Arend before, and knowing how much Nix likes her, it was a big responsibility writing the review for this one. I have to say now though I can see why Nix likes her work!  Man this book is HOT & I want the rest of the series NOW!  I just love series that have smokin’ hot brothers (and cowboys at that!), each with their own stories to tell & I adore how this one sets the scene for the following books, while still making it feel like Jaxi and Blake’s story.

Jaxi is a sweet and likable heroine, with just enough sass to stop her being a walk over and she certainly knows how to keep the men happy…..food. Having been a family friend for many years she is the perfect person to introduce us all to the Coleman boys, all of whom she’s kissed over the years except Blake, and give us a glimpse into their stories & what may be to come.

Blake is the quintessential cowboy….. a totally hot alpha male, who knows what he wants but denies himself to live up to his responsibilities as the oldest son.  But once he decides that he wants Lacey, after being berated by all his family members for being such a fool, there’s no stopping him.

There’s one thing that I can’t make up my mind about though…..I can’t decide if it bothers me just how much scheming Jaxi has done over the years, both alone, and now with the help of Blake’s family or if it’s just quite funny.  Without wishing to give too much away, Jaxi has spent a lot of time and effort into becoming the ‘perfect’ ranch wife for Blake in taking college courses, becoming involved in all the charities and associations around town etc.  While I can see why she has done it (to get him to get over the 10 years age difference) and that she has genuine feelings for Blake, which, combined with how she at times uses his brothers to make him jealous, just makes me a tad uncomfortable.  Not that the pool table scene with the twins, Jaxi and Blake isn’t hot…..just not sure about the motives.

So when is the next one out please?
