August 2022 week 2 Romance Releases : Top Picks of this weeks books include archeologists, chefs and vampires

Posted August 7, 2022 by Nix in Top Picks, Uncategorized / 1 Comment

Welcome to Top Picks. This is a weekly post which features books out this week which have caught my eye.

I have decided to split the list into three; On my List, On my Radar and Caught My eye. The first is those I have every intention of reading. On my Radar feautures books that I have marked on a wishlist, possibly as I am awaiting a price drop or am not up to that book in the series. The last are more one’s I know next to nothing about but have caught my eye for some reason. All books are one’s which I would potentially read.

As always, I do my due diligence on all books I put on here. I don’t recommend books from authors who I know have engaged in awful behaviour or have bigotted views – I chose not to give them my money so you won’t find them on here. If I make a mistake and feature an author who has engaged in bad behaviour, tell me in the comments and the book will be removed.

I don’t read NA. I do not read reverse harem. I also do not read Pandemic romance. Those books will not feature here.

Due to issues with prices, I will no longer be posting RRP’s of these books – the prices I post seem to be accurate for a day so I feel it is completely pointless.

What happens in the field, stays in the field. Or does it?

After the disastrous way her first archaeological dig ended, graduate student Olivia Sanchez abandoned her dreams of working in the field. Now, thanks to a last-minute teaching opportunity in Cyprus, she’ll get another chance to explore ancient history firsthand. This time, failure isn’t an option.

But digging up the past takes on a whole new meaning when she’s forced to team up with her ex, shovel bum Rick Langston.

For years, Rick has proven his archaeological skills all over the Mediterranean. But with no graduate degree—and a habit of attracting trouble—his reputation could use a little rehab. All he has to do is play by the rules while he’s in Cyprus and he’ll secure a coveted recommendation for his next job. Until Olivia resurfaces like a cursed relic from the past.

Given that their last fling nearly led to their academic ruin, Olivia and Rick can’t afford to repeat their past mistakes. But as they work together under the scorching Mediterranean sun, the heat between them proves impossible to ignore.

So there I was selling bikinis out of my truck in South Beach Miami, getting ready to kick off a wet t-shirt contest when the world’s biggest grouch approached me – Keller Fitzwilliam.

The man had the sultriest British accent I’ve ever heard. And he looked like he just walked off a Viking boat and into a suit tailored specifically for his impressively muscular frame. Only problem is, he had the warmth of an ice pick and he kept telling me he was here to take me back to his home country.

Of course, I didn’t follow him. I might be up for a good time, but I’m also educated enough to know leaving with a stranger isn’t smart. Well, that’s until he mentioned my mom’s name. My mom who passed away several years ago.

So after some serious fact-checking, my bikini-clad bum went with him to a sub-arctic country I had never heard of just north of the British Isles, where I found out my grandpa was the king of said freezing country, and I was the one and only heir.

Desperate to learn more about my mom, I decided to give this princess thing a chance.

Good idea, right? Wrong.

Because Mr. Ice Pick was put to the task of training me and he’s not just cold as ice, he’s pompous, aggravating, and possessive. And did I mention we have to share a bathroom in a tiny castle?

We are oil and water every single day and even though he’s training me to be queen, I have this simmering desire to kneel before him.

Viori de Aoibheall wields a terrifying ability to sing monsters to life. Having spent her childhood in a forest, raising herself and her frightening creations—the only friends she’s ever known—she’s ill prepared for the scarred royal and his fearsome brutality. Not to mention the ferocity of their connection and the carnality of his touch. But the real problem? Her brother is Micah’s greatest foe. And though the sensual king makes her burn, she must stop him, whatever the cost.

Immortal Enemies

Book 1: Heartless
Book 2: Ruthless

A Navy SEAL with special powers over water joins forces with a magical thunderbird shifter to defeat an ancient evil, finding unexpected love in the middle of the tempest.

Traumatized by his last mission in a far off land, Navy SEAL Jim Morrow goes to Grizzly Cove to heal and help defeat a sea monster that’s been plaguing the little town full of bear shifters, refugee mermaids, and Others. Otherworldly and evil, the leviathan has called up an army of smaller creatures from Earth’s oceans to help it get to the magical people it wants so badly to defile. It feeds on magic and the town of Grizzly Cove is a tasty treat it wants to devour.

Tilly follows her heart and her shifter soul to a place on the Washington coastline she senses needs her special help. She is a thunderbird. A special kind of legendary shifter that does one job, and does it very well. Thunderbirds are harbingers of storms that can wield lightning and fight underwater evil to protect those on land. She is called to Grizzly Cove by the terrible army that has gathered just offshore, though she knows nothing of the bear shifter settlement or its troubles until she gets there.

When Jim and Tilly meet, they immediately strike sparks off each other. She brings him to life when he thought the light of his spirit had been forever doused. She finds in Jim a wondrous elemental power that compliments her own native skillset. Together, they will fight the leviathan and its servants to the best of their abilities, but will it be enough? And, will they be able to find a way forward as a couple when they come from such different backgrounds?

A possessed motorcycle. A nosy detective. And a serial killer on the loose. The only thing they have in common? Me.

This divorcee has always loved collecting random stuff, so owning a junkyard is a dream come true—until the robbery. My unlikely rescuer? An old motorcycle.

I repay my debt to the trashed bike by rebuilding it with sweat, blood, and cursing. Because I’m done with the tears. As a member of the don’t-give-a-damn forties club, I refuse to be a victim. With my steel wolf between my thighs, I’m taking back the night.

And who do I happen to meet on my first ride? The scum who robbed and beat me. I’ll teach them a lesson they won’t soon forget.

Unfortunately, my antics draw the attention of the detective currently investigating a string of murders. He can bite my forty-seven-year-old ass if he thinks I’m confessing to anything but an interest in what’s under his button-down shirt.

Turns out, there’s more to the killings than meets the eye. Apparently, it isn’t just cars that sometimes come to life. Impossible as it seems, my ride appears to have bloodthirsty tendencies.

But is it evil or trying to right a wrong?

I’d better figure it out—and soon—or I might be its next victim.

Tarot readings, a malicious thief, some of the worst poetry you will ever read, and the wrath of a powerful enemy…can Ivo save his love in time, or will fate destroy their last hope for a future together?
