“How about the Caribbean for Christmas?”
Honey looked up from the present she was wrapping, sitting on the floor of Matt’s living room. “Seriously?”
Matt sighed. He dropped onto the couch near her. “Probably not. We have an away game December 23, and a home game December 27. That would give us…one full day there.”
“It’s not worth it,” she said softly. “It’s okay, Matt. I know you want our first Christmas together to be good.”
“I want it to be better than good,” he said. “I want it to be amazing. My next choice would be taking you home to Winnipeg. You deserve a real family Christmas.”
“I have a real family.”
He caught the roll of her eyes and smiled. “Yeah, you do, but knowing your mom…I can just imagine what Christmas is like. Big showy blowout, right? She’s already got more decorations and lights than Universal Studios. Does she let the kids run around screaming, all hopped up on sugar and excitement about Santa coming?”
“You can’t really stop kids from doing that,” she said seriously, although her lips twitched. “Yeah, my mom likes to control every detail, but even she’s not that good.”
Matt smiled. “Yeah, okay. But you know Christmas with my family would be different. Also, there would be snow there.”
“That’s a plus?” She lifted an eyebrow, but then her smile went wistful. “Your parents are awesome. And your brothers. And you know I love their wives and kids. Is everyone else going to be there?
“Everyone but Logan. His schedule doesn’t work out this year and he and Nicole and Chris are staying in Minneapolis. But Tag is there of course. Remi is flying there with the kids the week before Christmas and Jase is joining them Christmas Eve.”
“We could do it, even if it’s rushed.”
“We’d get there Christmas Eve and leave Boxing Day.” He grimaced. “It’d be nice to have longer there.”
“Yeah.” She shrugged. Then she tossed her blonde hair back and smiled. “We’ll do that one day. This year we’ll just have to have Christmas with my family.”
“Fuck,” he muttered. “Do we have to?”
She grinned. “If I can handle it, you can handle it.”
One corner of his mouth lifted. “I can handle them. But I’d rather stay home just the two of us.”
“For three days?” she teased.
Huh. That sounded pretty good. “Yeah,” he said slowly. “Three days, you and me, nowhere else to be, nothing else to do. We could stay in bed for three days.”
She choked. “I should have known that’s what you meant.”
He grinned. “Well sure. Babe. We could make it really fun…” He was warming to this idea, thinking about how they could spend their time in bed. Get some food in, bottles of wine and beer, massage oil…he’d wrap up some toys for Honey for Christmas and they could open them in bed…and use them in bed…
The idea was appealing to him more and more.
“Christmas is supposed to be about family,” she said.
“We’re family,” he said. “Now. Right?”
“Make you a deal.” He leaned forward and slid his hand around the back of her neck. “Three days in bed. We only get out long enough to go to your parent’s place for turkey dinner. And if they give you any shit, we’re outta there.”
Her mouth curved into a sexy smile, eyes gleaming. “Hmm. You drive a hard bargain, hockey boy.”
“I do drive hard,” he murmured. “You know that.”
“Mmm. Yes. And you have a big stick.”
“And I know how to use it.”
She laughed. “Okay. Deal. I love you.”
He sealed the deal with a hot, hard, promising kiss.
Honey Holbrook is trying hard to leave her past behind her and make a new life for herself. A former spoiled, rich, wild child, her attention-grabbing antics were tabloid fodder for years. Now she has a new job, a new home, and is staying out of the limelight. But the first day of the new job doesn’t go like she expects when her boss and coworkers make it clear she’s not wanted there, and the first project she has to work on is with pro hockey player Matt Heller.
Matt and Honey had a wild and wicked fling eight years ago when he was attending summer development camp for the California Condors – the NHL team Honey’s dad owns. But the relationship ended when they argued over the loser friends Honey hung around with and Matt had to return to college hockey. Before he left, Matt talked to Honey’s dad about Honey’s exploits. She felt betrayed and rejected, and threw herself even harder into her partying lifestyle while Matt tried to carve out a career for himself in the NHL.
Now Matt’s back with the Condors but recovering from a serious injury that has changed his whole outlook on life. He’s not impressed to be working with Honey Holbrook, although her cleaned up image arouses his curiosity. And arouses something else…
