LGBT Fiction Event Day 14 : Interview with Neve Rush from Leigh Ellwood’s Sugar Rush (Incl. Grand Prize giveaway)

Hello, everybody! Thanks to Scorching Reviews for hosting me today during their LGBT Month celebration. I am Leigh Ellwood and I write M/M and F/F romance and erotica. This summer I am pleased to be part of a line of lesbian erotic romance stories published by Ellora’s Cave. The Hot Pink line will feature a number of authors known in F/F circles, and my novella Sugar Rush quite literally takes the cake!

To get us all excited about this June release, I’m interviewing one of the characters in the story. Say hello to Neve, owner of the Sugar Rush bakery!

Neve: *waves* Happy to be here!

Leigh: Neve, your bakery is quite popular, but as your story begins we learn you gain more publicity than you bargained for. Tell us about that.

Neve: Oh, dear. I didn’t think it was a big deal at first. One day this couple came in to order a wedding cake, and I said sure I’ll bake it for you. No biggie, right? Well, it was a lesbian couple, and our state had just ruled the ban on same-sex marriages unconstitutional. Naturally, they wanted a wedding. It doesn’t matter to me if a gay or straight couple wants to marry. Love is love, you know?

Leigh: Not everybody thinks like you, though.

Neve: *shakes head* One of my employees posted the news on our Facebook, and the comments went nuts. Lot of people threatened to boycott me for baking this cake, but we did get supporters, too. I’m thinking… come on, it’s CAKE! I don’t ask the sexual orientation of my customers. Live and let live. These nice ladies wanted a wedding cake to celebrate their big day, and they asked me to bake it. I’m flattered. I love weddings, and all happy occasions. That’s why I own a bakery – it’s a happy place. 🙂

Leigh: Just thinking about cake makes me hungry! Would you consider yourself a baker/LGBT activist?

Neve: I’m just me. I keep my private life separate from work. If somebody wants to order a rainbow cake for a Pride event I’ll handle it. I wouldn’t say Sugar Rush is a “gay bakery” because I offer goodies to everybody. It’s a people place, and I guess in a way it’s activism. I promote equality through sweet stuff. 🙂

Leigh: You seem to work a lot. Does it leave much time for you?

Neve: Work is a balm for me. I was in a serious relationship, and when it ended I dove into work to heal. Recently, though, I met a young lady who enjoys my baking, and she’s rather cute!

Leigh: Oh, really? Sounds like a good sign for the future.

Neve: Maybe, but if you want to hear more you’ll have to come by the bakery. Bring your appetite!

Baker Neve Rush is surprised to receive social media attention, both the good and bad varieties, after agreeing to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. She cares about people’s tastes in pastries, not sexual partners. The newfound fame has gained her new customers—as well as one resurfaced ex. Gianna stirs up memories Neve would rather forget, and an impromptu flirtation with a client might just do the trick.

Judy Goldsmith finds Neve’s open-mindedness refreshing and attractive, and isn’t above a little scheming to get to know her better. As Neve and Judy satisfy each other’s sweet tooth in the most pleasurable ways possible, feelings begin to blossom. But their deepening attraction may not survive a little white lie…and an even bigger, darker secret.
