This year has included a LOT of comfort reads.
These are books that I read over and over again as I love them that much.
None of them are from this year as I only class a book as a comfort read if I’ve read a dozen times because I have picked it up to cheer me up.
This post is to celebrate the rereads that got me through 2020. They are all series because, for some reason, all my rereads were series (I’m not sure what that says about my reading habits but here we are!).
I’m also going to highlight my fave of the series … because this would be boring without pictures and some of these covers are very pretty, I will use the UK covers. Mainly as I am in the UK 🙂

The play’s the fling
It’s not actress Lily Lamprey’s fault that she’s all curves and has the kind of voice that can fog up a camera lens. She wants to prove where her real talents lie—and that’s not on a casting couch, thank you. When she hears esteemed director Luc Savage is renovating a legendary West End theater for a lofty new production, she knows it could be her chance—if only Luc wasn’t so dictatorial, so bad-tempered and so incredibly sexy.
Luc Savage has respect, integrity and experience. He also has it bad for Lily. He’d be willing to dismiss it as a midlife crisis, but this exasperating, irresistible woman is actually a very talented actress. Unfortunately, their romance is not only raising questions about Lily’s suddenly rising career, it’s threatening Luc’s professional reputation. The course of true love never did run smooth. But if they’re not careful, it could bring down the curtain on both their careers…
Lucy Parker’s series has made me laugh and swoon a million times over this year. Her characterisation is amazing and she writes dynamic protagonists who I WILL to fall (some of them really fight it). There is some heat, some drama and lots of lovely, lovely dialogue. I truly recommend.
AUTHOR : Nalini Singh
Series : Psy-Changeling
Needs to be read in order? : Yes
Book Featured : #13 Shield of Winter
Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch – if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life.
For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake…
Having rebuilt her life after medical ‘treatment’ that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption.
But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness…
I could have picked either of the PNR/UF series from Nalini Singh but this one is the one I gravitated towards more this Lockdown. I adore each and every story and I could quote some of them by this point. Strong women falling in love (and often saving the day) amongst a dystopian, supernatural world which is falling apart at it seams; I adore it. I’ve chosen Ivy and Vasic’s book as it is the one I adore the most.

Book Featured : #2 Pack of Lies
Hadley is losing time, and her shadow refuses to shed light on the gaps in her memory. How can she protect her city if she can’t remember where she goes or what she does when she ought to be asleep? Her grim history appears to be stuck on repeat, and the only way forward might be a scythe through her back.
I adore this series. I started reading it as a spin-off from the Necromancy series but I prefer it. I have read it a million times and also listened to it in audio. I love the story of these two VERY flawed individuals starting again – I am enjoying watching them try to work together. Content warning though for kidnap, previous abuse, violence.

He’s big, burly, and way smarter than your average shapeshifting bear. He’s also about to get trapped by own his game. . .
Lou Crushek is a reasonable, mellow, easygoing kind of guy. But once someone starts killing the scumbags he works so hard to bust, that really gets under his fur. Especially when that someone is a curvy she-tiger with a skill set that’s turning Crush’s lone-bear world upside down–and bringing his passion out of hibernation. . .
As a member of an elite feline protection unit, Marcella Malone has no problem body-dropping anyone who hunts her kind. But Crush is proving one major pain in her gorgeous tail. The only reason she’s joined forces with him is to track down the wealthy human who’s got her entire species in his ruthless sights. It sure isn’t because Crush’s stubborn and contrary attitude is rubbing Cella in all the right ways. .
Honestly, I adore this series. It’s funny to the point it makes me cry and the storylines are ridiculous. I highlight this as Crush and Cella’s book is my absolute favourite; a hockey/contract assassin tigress falls for a grumpy cop-polar, whom she was pretending was her boyfriend so her aunt wouldn’t marry her off to her cousin. No, I kid you not. It does have a high amount of sex, violence and swearing.
AUTHOR : Talia Hibbert
Series : Ravenswood
Need to be read in Order? : No
Featured book : #1 A Girl Like Her
Ruth Kabbah is okay with being an outcast.
Between her autism, her comic book nerdery, and the whiff of scandal her small town can’t forget, Ruth will always be Ravenswood’s black sheep. Since she prefers silence and solitude to gossip and pub crawls, that suits her just fine—until Evan Miller comes to town.
Ex-military man Evan is gorgeous, confident… and he’s Ruth’s new neighbour. Unlike everyone else, he doesn’t seem to mind her crotchety ways or her cooking disasters. In fact, if Ruth didn’t know any better, she might think Evan likes her.
But Ruth’s been burned before, and some lessons are hard to forget.
She can’t let her guard down—no matter how many home-cooked meals Evan brings over. Because affection is temporary, trust is made to be broken, and the heat of desire is a dangerous thing to play with.
So why does this man feel so safe?
I love this series but I ADORE this book. Ruth is wonderful and Evan is a darling. Talia Hibbert has a unique author voice and each of her characters SHINE. I want to know them and I want them to succeed – I really enjoy seeing the world from the viewpoint of her characters. I will warn you that she deals with difficult topics (this one features domestic abuse and LOTS of ableism) and all her books will come with their own content warning. I love them. Especially her heroes because they are all absolute cinnamon roles and worship the women in these books.

Series : Kate Daniels
To be read in order? Yes
Featured book : #3
Drafted into working for the Order of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems than she knows what to do with these days. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that’s saying a lot.
But when Kate’s werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games – an invitation only, no holds barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament – she and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta’s shapeshifting community
I think this is my most read series. I think I have actually read it twice this year. I love Kate. She changes so much over the course of this series and I love watching her go from a lonely mercenary, to a happy woman surrounded with people who love her. It is, from start to finish, an absolute page turner. I am featuring book three because it’s my favourite – Kate and Curran when they are still in the flirting stage and we are still getting to know the plethora of side characters in this series.

Ginger Holtzman has fought for everything she’s ever had—the success of her tattoo shop, respect in the industry, her upcoming art show. Tough and independent, she has taking-no-crap down to an art form. Good thing too, since keeping her shop afloat, taking care of her friends, and scrambling to finish her paintings doesn’t leave time for anything else. Which … is for the best, because then she doesn’t notice how lonely she is. She’ll get through it all on her own, just like she always does.
Christopher Lucen opened a coffee and sandwich joint in South Philly because he wanted to be part of a community after years of running from place to place, searching for something he could never quite name. Now, he relishes the familiarity of knowing what his customers want, and giving it to them. But what he really wants now is love.
When they meet, Christopher is smitten, but Ginger … isn’t quite so sure. Christopher’s gorgeous, and kind, and their opposites-attract chemistry is off the charts. But hot sex is one thing—truly falling for someone? Terrifying. When her world starts to crumble around her, Ginger has to face the fact that this fight can only be won by being vulnerable—this fight, she can’t win on her own.
Small Change is the first in a series that is set in the Middle of Somewhere universe. It features crossover characters from that series but stands on its own. The Small Change series will include M/F and M/M romances.
This is possibly quite a controversial addition as, to most, there is nothing comforting about these books. The subject matter is hard (CW Suicidal ideology, sexual harrassment, mysogony and book two has addiction and suicide attempts) but the story is absolutely gorgeous. The love interests in both of the books are wonderful; accepting of the emotional fragility of their loved ones, strong enough to push back when needed and completely and utterly commited. I just love the books and the relationships that are depicted in them. I’ve read book one a milion times over (I want a Christopher) and I always have a smile on my face by the end.

Fate has thrown two sworn enemies…
Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends with a death. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and for nearly ruining his career.
Into each other’s arms…
Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it’s no joke; the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension.
Julie James writes romance that makes me smile. There is not a single one that hasn’t hit me in the warm and fuzzies and, even with a new read, I know what I am getting myself into. Smart women, often in positions of power, and men that are Alpha in their jobs and cinnamon rolls elsewhere. The one I have featured is my fave and I’m so excited that it has been optioned by PassionFlix.

ONE KISS CAN LAST FOREVER
Becca Thorpe has uprooted her life and escaped to the beach. Now’s her chance to get away from city living, throw caution to the ocean winds, and live in the moment. Especially if the moment includes the deliciously sexy surfer she meets shortly after arriving in Lucky Harbor. Something about the dark intensity of Sam’s eyes and the thrill she gets at his touch convinces her to stay awhile.
Boatbuilder and investment genius Sam Brody is a self-made man who knows how dangerous it can be to mix business and pleasure. But he can’t resist offering Becca a job just to hear her laugh and have her near. Yet when her brother comes to town asking for help, will he tempt her back to her glamorous life in the city? Or do Sam and little Lucky Harbor have a chance to win Becca’s heart?
I love the Lucky Harbour series. They are books with low angst, medium heat and a lot of warm and fuzzies. Set in a small town, there are a host of side characters that give this series its charm and I adore it. This book, and book 6, are probably my favourite and, if they were paperbacks, the pages would have fell out by now.
