He might growl, but she’s not afraid to bite.

Hands full taking care of his clan, the last thing this Kodiak bear needs is a woman poking her cute little nose into his affairs. But when she refuses to back down—and shows the courage to stand up to him—he can’t resist the allure of a curvy city girl.

She’s mine. All mine.

And when a rival clan thinks to use her to force his paw, he’ll show them why you never piss off a Kodiak, or threaten what’s his.

Tammy is convinced men are all scum, even gorgeous ones like Reid Carver. She knows he’s hiding something. Something big. She just never expected a real freaking bear hid underneath all those muscles. But when the truth comes out and he tries to scare her off with a roar, she shows him not just bears have bite

FTC : I bought this a while ago so this is my honest opinion. This is gonna be a short review…..

I generally know what I’m getting into with an Eve Langlais book. I know I’m getting madcap stories, a whole lot of snark and a fiesty heroine but this one sounded very different. This is a relatively “normal” PNR world for an Eve Langlais book. I’ve read her aliens, her mutant shifters and her Cyborgs, but this was was quite tame… this one was a simply set within a clan of shifters run by a bear (bears…of course I picked it up!). It made me laugh out loud and, although it wasn’t perfect, it certainly made enough of an impression to make me buy the rest of the series.

This is an insta-mates story between two characters who really didn’t put up much of a fight against their mutual attraction. The lack of angst left for an easy ride that was a nice introduction to both the series and the characters that will be getting future books. There was instant chemistry on the page between Reid (the grumpy Alpha bear) and Tammy (the curvy, fiesty, insurance investigator) so their story was a fun and simple read. I only wish she’d have put up a bit more of a fight against the bossy nature of this particular Alpha …

I knew I’d like the heroine as soon as she appeared on the page setting her scumbag ex’s belongings on fire and cooking a steak on the embers. Tammy started the book so fierce I thought I would love her but, although the snark remained the same all the way through, I felt she lost a little bit of her oomph towards the middle of the book. I loved her interactions on the page with Reid but she just didn’t seem to put up any kind of fight against his autocratic attitude and her fieriness seemed to just disappear. I didn’t hate her as a heroine, I just didn’t love her.

Reid was fun. I expected a bossy Alpha with a grumpy edge and that is exactly what I got. He was completely for taking what he wanted; he wasn’t going to be argued with because he WAS RIGHT. I just enjoyed his character because he just did not give a shit and it was so funny to read. The only character in the book that made me laugh more was the Grandmother because she was Reid times ten. Every single part of the book that made me giggle audibly was a Reid moment … he is reason alone to read this.

This was a very funny book that introduces the rest of the series. It felt a bit like a prequel because there was a lot of series information, and the love story came rather easily, but that doesn’t mean that you can miss it out and start with book two; I honestly think this book will turn out to be vital in terms of building the back story of both the clan and the baddie. I did enjoy it but I think I enjoyed it more for the side characters than I did the main couple … I can’t wait for the Moose hero next!

A solid start to a new series with some hallmark traits of a Langlais series. It was funny, sexy and filled to the brim with snark … bring on the Moose!:)

  1. I didn’t realize when I was recommended this book that it would be from Langlais! I love her writing – it’s sexy and I enjoy that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. I’ve gotta purchase a copy of this. Thanks for sharing – I’m glad you enjoyed the book!
