I have the delight of introducing the lovely Sierra Cartwright today. I first read Sierra’s stuff in an anthology I bought to read another authors story. I read Sierra’s tale and immediately bought her Hawk-eye series. Her back-list is pretty much littered with BDSM tales so she was an fabulous choice to add to this event.

Heres what she has to say…..

Thanks for the opportunity to be included in this project—I love fun stuff like this!

My journey into writing erotic romance began a number of years ago. I was writing “traditional” romances for a New York publisher and loving life. Then I ended up going through an unexpected divorce. I’d been writing books since I was nine or ten (some really terrible fanfic—Star Trek variety!), and for the first time in my life, I had trouble with my creativity.

I stopped writing as I found a found a job and embarked on the next phase of my life. It turned out to be quite an adventure.

Once I found erotic romances, I started reading voraciously. Then I discovered BDSM romances. Wow.

In my early adult years, I read the Story of O and, of course, the Anne Rice erotica series. And then I found some stories by Claire Thompson that really resonated with me.

I did some research, and I found I really loved the D/s dynamic—the total trust, the power exchange, the raw honesty.

(In real life, you need to be careful before embarking on this kind of relationship. There are interesting and dangerous people wherever you go.)

My heroes tend to be larger-than-life, so much so that my latest hero is a billionaire! My heroines tend to be strong, capable, fully realized women who meet their match in the hero. It’s so sexy to me to have a man who fully “gets” me, and my heroines are no different. Imagine a partner who won’t rest until he discovers your innermost desires and is focused on making them come true

In the D/s dynamic in my books, there is an honestly discussed power exchange. Having a frank discussion with your man about what you want, what he wants, My characters always have a safe word or signal, an out if things are too intense for her physically or emotionally. Even if each couple has a unique agreement about how and when the word is used, the relationship is based on trust and communication.

The hero (or, double deliciously fun—heroes) will take his woman beyond anything she’s ever experienced before. She relinquishes complete control to him, but in an interesting paradox, he gives her the power to decide what she needs—even though he’s determined to push the boundaries to help her explore her own sexuality and limits.

Exploring the dynamic between each couple is fascinates me. Some stories are more extreme than others—some scenes or stories may make readers uncomfortable. But I try never to violate the trust between my protagonists—even when limits are tested.

In the D/s dynamic in my books and those of my favorite writers, the couple is transformed by the BDSM experience. Sex and BDSM is never gratuitous, but rather, it’s essential. Each interaction changes them, draws them closer, makes them a different person than they were before.

I invite you to take a walk on the wild side with me…

  22. Sierra Cartwright rocks!! I have read so many of her novels, novellas and short stories and enjoyed them all. Some are really "out there" but I appreciate an author who is willing to create stories that are outside the usual format. After all, BDSM itself is "outside the box" for many and only those who investigate with an open mind discover that for some it is the way to

  23. @Dr J

Hey, Dr. J! Thanks for taking time to write. I do try to be true to my characters and what they would think and do. I love your insight about self-discovery, renewal, and forgiveness. Very much appreciated.
