Bound by Night – Amanda Ashley

Posted in Uncategorized / 0 Comments

Once featured in a horror movie the crumbling Wolfram estate is said to be haunted by ghosts, witches & worse. But Elena doesn’t believe a word of it – until she spends the night & wakes up in the arms of a compelling stranger…

Tall, dark & disturbingly handsome, Drake is the most beautiful man Elena has ever seen. For centuries, he has lived alone & Elena is the first woman to enter his lair – and survive.  And Drake is the first man to touch her heart & soul. By the time she discovers who he really is – & what he craves – it’s too late. Blood lust has turned to love & Elena is deeply under Drakes spell. But forever comes at a price for each of them.

Meet Elena, a twenty year old brought up in the USA until her parents died, who lives in Romania with the husband of her dead aunt.  A man who she knows has raped & abused his own daughter, Jenica, for years.  Can I ask the question what the hell is she still doing there?!? Especially when he’s making advances towards her & suggesting they get married for propriety’s sake?! Oh yeah & he’s the local chief of police?!?

So what does Elena do? She runs away, with no clothes or money, to the big crumbling castle up the hill where she wakes up in the arms of a stranger & decides to stay.

Meet Drake, a 500 year old vampire, who is handsome I grant you, who is bored with life & running away from familial responsibilities – don’t you just know that’s going to come back & bite you!

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve read a book that has more cliches in it than this one. Normally I wouldn’t mind, I mean who doesn’t love a book that you know it’s all going to be a happy ending, but this one just doesn’t have the characters to back it up. There’s no spark between Elena & Drake. It just felt rather insipid, predictable & boring to me. I really rather wanted to slap the pair of them, but especially Elena.  There are just too many points throughout where she just sits back & let’s things happen to her, accepting them without questioning or fighting them, but plenty of tears! Give me a kick ass heroine any day!

2 stars because I actually finished it!
