Day Five BDSM Event : Joely Sue Burkhart talks ultimate submission and offers a giveaway

Posted in Uncategorized / 35 Comments

Welcome to Day Five of the BDSM Appreciation Event here at Scorching Book Reviews. So far we still have the BDSM Blog Hop which you can enter here and the wonderful Kele Moon giving away her Eden series and the lovely Cari Silverwood giving away a book. Just Click on the Links to play along.

Today, we have the lovely Joely Sue Burkhart. I first came across Joely’s work with her Connagher series and I love love LOVE her BDSM scenes. Anyhow, the brief was to write about what comes up in their books….so let’s see what Cari has to say…

Submission… Or Sacrifice?

Complete submission to another human being can be a powerful, gut-wrenching experience (which is why it can be so erotic!). There’s so much trust involved. What will I be asked to do? How far will I be pushed? How long can I last before I have to give up the safeword? No matter how well prepared you are, there’s still an underlying tension. Have I placed my trust in someone who’ll actually treasure that submission… and stop when I say I’m done?

Of course in a safe and consensual scene, that doubt should be lessened. Mistakes do happen, but nobody’s going to be playing with a Dominant for long who ignores the most basic and fundamental rule of all. But what if this isn’t exactly a scripted scene? What if you’re trying to save someone you love…maybe even the world?

In The Bloodgate Warrior, Cassie has to decide how much she trusts Técun. The infamous conquistador, Alvarado, has returned as a demon and is threatening to destroy not just her loved ones but the entire “1`world. Only Técun Uman, the reincarnated Guatemalan national hero, can send Alvarado back to hell once and for all. But he needs power. Great power. The kind of power that that comes from sacrifice on top of a pyramid.

Thanks to movies like Apocalypto, we can easily imagine what kind of gory sacrifice that might entail. But Cassie has a different kind of ritual in mind. Descended from a priestess gifted in sexual magic, she can choose to sacrifice herself in a mind-blowing ritual that would give Técun immeasurable power. But sacrifice on top of a pyramid isn’t an easy thing to face. Not bound. Helpless. On a stone altar. With an ancient Mayan god/warrior approaching with a knife in his hand. This isn’t your every day sort of submission. Will she survive the greatest sacrifice of all?

Sacrifice comes to the top of the pyramid. Remember my love atop the pyramid. Remember your sacrifice. And smile.

What’s your favorite Mayan ruin? Have you visited a site? I’d love to hear about it! One commenter on this post will win a free copy of The Bloodgate Warrior.

I’m also running a “Save An Ent – Read an Ebook” Giveaway where you can win your choice of an eReader. Details are on my blog.

Joely always has her nose buried in abook, especially one with mythology, fairy tales, and romance. Find her on her Website, Twitter, and Facebook. Be sure to check out her free-reads!

  1. I've only been to Chitzen Itza. I'd probably pick Tikal, because it was a setting in Star Wars.

    Your series sound awesome.

  4. I don't have a favorite but am fascinated with Mayan science and math. I hate those TV shows that say Mayan achievements are proof that aliens visited earth — as if without a steam engine and microprocessors the human brain and body are rendered useless. Conversely, I love fiction that adds an element of magic to those same accomplishments. Just ficle that way I guess 🙂 amberdcline gmail

  5. I've never been to that part if the world. Something about hot, humid jungle and the creatures who live gives me the willies. It is a fascinating subject and this book also looks amazing!
I actually first gears of you, Joely, after I win one of your books in a giveaway. I've been a fan ever since.!

  10. Sadly I have never been (and doubt I will ever go) to any Mayan ruins but I am fascinated by their appearance and the detail achieved with what we would consider primitive equipment. Thank you for the giveaway and the post.

  11. Sadly, I haven’t been to any Mayan ruins, so I don’t have a favorite. I am hoping that one day I will be able to take a trip to see them though. I’m sure it’s beautiful with a strong sense of history.

  17. I would love to go to see Hormiguero, Structure II. Just to look at the photos, the site is amazing. Just think about how much work went into carving the faces of the walls
